Founder and Lead Coach

Hi! I'm Kristin, and I founded T1D Caregiver Kickstart. I know how it feels to be a brand new Type 1 parent - I was a mom that cared with every ounce of my being, but my world spun out of control. All I wanted was to be seen, heard, and understood...and have someone teach me everything they knew!

I spent days reading every blog and book. I joined every FaceBook “support” group and followed every Instagram account I thought would “help.” I stressed out my sons and strained the relationship with my husband. I was a mess!

Fast forward 5 years and I am a confident caregiver with an abundance of real life knowledge in caring for our 2 Type 1 sons. I have created a new healthy normal for our family and have learned the most important lesson of also caring for myself.

So I set off on a mission to help caregivers of newly diagnosed Type 1 kiddos bridge the gap between what they learn in the hospital at diagnosis, and everything you learn the first few years on your way to becoming a confident caregiver.

I created a program to walk side-by-side T1 caregivers that will bridge that gap and support them as they create their new normal.  That is how "T1D Caregiver Kickstart" was born!

Here's the problem...

Here is how most Type 1 Caregivers learn to survive:

  • They get on Facebook and Google and read everything they can find.

  • They find tons of information with so many opinions, but no CLEAR answers.

  • In the process they soak up tons of negativity, fear, and paranoia.

  • Sadly, they feel isolated and exhausted and just put one foot in front of the other doing the best they know how.

  • They go to their child's Endocrinologist for "big" issues, but they are left to create their own new normal one day at a time.

Eventually, these caregivers break down. I was in their position! Feeling desperate sucks. Knowing Type 1 Diabetes does not take a single day off means there is zero chance to catch your breath. I’ve been there.

But it DOES NOT have to be this way!

WHAT IF...

  • What if... your sense of feeling overwhelmed was GONE?

  • Can you imagine if… you felt CONFIDENT in all aspects of caring for your Type 1 child and had efficient systems in place?

  • Would you like to… get real-life advice from a mom who has been living this T1D life for years already?

...without being flooded with worry or fear, and without spending hours you don’t have searching for answers reading everything you can get your hands on?

Why I am different...

  • I live this life as a T1D Caregiver every day...the same as you. I SEE you. I HEAR your struggles. I UNDERSTAND your challenges.

  • I teach you how to create systems that work for you and understand how to truly begin to manage blood glucose.

  • I provide proven tips & tricks to make daily T1D tasks easier and more efficient.

  • I support you with LIVE interactions 2x per week, as well as daily support as needed.

  • My coaching will guide you in streamlining your T1 Care, conquering the feeling of being overwhelmed and embracing a comfortable new normal.

  • I’ll teach you how to prioritize self-care to eliminate the overwhelm and nourish healthy, supportive relationships.

Mason was diagnosed after his younger brother. He plays soccer, snowboards and plays guitar.

Who I work with...

I have found that my system works best for these two groups of people:

  1. Caregivers of children JUST diagnosed who want to embark on life with Type 1 Diabetes with the utmost guidance.

  1. Caregivers of children diagnosed in the previous 6 months who are feeling overwhelmed and need 1- on -1 support.

The T1D Caregiver Program

How it works...

When you sign up to work with me, we’ll start off with a one-on-one phone call to talk about your specific challenges and goals. From there, we will develop a plan to move you through the following steps:

STEP 1: Systems in Place

Real life tips and tricks  to make snacks, mealtimes, testing, and dosing easier. Simple systems and “life hacks” to prioritize safety at all times.

STEP 2: Insulin 101

You will discover the multitude of factors that impact blood sugar and get a strong understanding of how to begin “managing” your child’s Type 1 Diabetes. Understand stubborn highs and stubborn lows...why they can happen and how to deal with them. Learn to identify blood glucose trends to discuss with your child’s endocrinologist.

STEP 3: Go Time!

You’ll learn how to take this T1D show “on the road!” Type 1 won’t stop you from doing everything you and your child love to do. Learn how to safely navigate your child’s activities/sports, how to travel, & how to prepare for a school year. Understanding 504 Plans, Health Alerts, and how to advocate for your child in a positive way.

STEP 4: Self-Care and Relationships

I will be prioritizing self-care for each caregiver from Day 1 of the program. This section will acknowledge the very real exhaustion and anxiety that is so common for Type 1 caregivers. You do not need to feel overwhelmed every day! You will learn easy ways to care for yourself so you can thrive in caring for your child and live your best life!

STEP 5: Create your New Normal and Build Confidence

The final step is to ensure you have woven Type 1 care seamlessly into your daily routine. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You will ask questions to solidify your confidence and create a “new normal” that is best for your child, your family, and yourself.

“Truly there is no better person I have encountered since my son’s diagnosis with T1D in July 2019. Kristin Roth has literally been a T1D angel sent down from heaven for our family. Thanks to Kristin sharing her story about her boys, my son (Dylan) is alive today. If it were not for her, I am not sure I would’ve taken my son to the doctor that dreadful diagnosis day. My son was in DKA and taken by ambulance to the hospital. I will never forget the guilt, anxiety, fear, exhaustion and questions (SO many questions) especially those first few days in the hospital. We were trained literally by a firehose from an exceptional Endo team, but almost everything they taught us went in one ear and out the other. It was very hard to retain the  information overload. The truth is you really learn as you go by trial and error. Having someone to bounce ideas off and call day in/day out made our new life bearable. Kristin was there for us from Day 1. She took me to the grocery store (literally) when everything in our pantry/fridge looked like poison. Above all, it was all the phone calls and text messages all hours of day/night to help me balance dosages and make decisions, provide information on CGM and pump options, travel for the first time with T1D, return back to school with T1D, swim with T1D, the list goes on and on. For us, Kristin was sent directly from above to help in our darkest time so that our son and family can find our new normal.

“Kristin is an amazing T1D mom! Kristin is the first parent I turn to help other Type 1 Diabetic parents.  She is positive, encouraging and resourceful!”

“Kristin was an amazing help and support for us immediately after our daughter’s diagnosis 3 years ago, all the way through to today. I remember the fear, uncertainty and sleeplessness of that timeframe all too well and she was a rock of calmness and advice for us; a true sounding board. From a phone call with tears to a quick check in via messenger, we always knew she was only a call away. We owe her big time and are so thankful others will benefit from her support, positivity and encouragement. We are so grateful to have her in our corner, from opposite sides of the country.

Click the button below to book a Discovery Call with me. On the call, I’ll get to know you, ask some questions about your Type 1 Caregiver journey, and learn what you need guidance with.

At the end of our call, 1 of 2 things will happen: You’ll either be a perfect fit, and I will extend an invitation to work with me as one of my clients...

Or, if it's not a good fit, that’s totally okay too. There won’t be any hard feelings and NO obligations on your part — I will suggest something else you can do to achieve your goals, and point you in the right direction.

Let’s do this!
